The definition of touche': "Used to acknowledge a hit in fencing" but the second definition is the one I'm talking about currently, "the success or appropriateness of an argument, an accusation, or a witty point".
I put my son down for a nap and came back to the table while my daughter finished her lunch. We chatted a little bit. She told me how she really liked the mixture she just made on her plate: mustard, ketchup and cilantro jalapeno hummus. She finished her juice. Cleared her plate. I asked, "Are you ready for a nap?" Her response, "No, mama." I told her, "Sorry, hon, but you're taking a nap." She stops in her tracks, looks at me with her vibrant big blue eyes and asks, "Then why did you give me a choice?"
Touche', Maddi. Touche'.
I like giving the kids choices. A or B. Red or blue. Pancakes or waffles. Yes or No. She simply thought this was another choice I was posing to her. I need to remember this little incident for next time - no choices when it comes to naptime!
